Dani Pedrosa set the pace in the first Free Practice session at Aragon, with fellow Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo taking second place. Casey Stoner logged the third fastest time.
Casey Stoner was instantly fast, and took an early lead – it was only late on in the session that a brace of fast laps from a number of riders caused the standings to shuffle dramatically – one of the reasons why Ben Spies found himself in 11th position by the end of the session, when he had originally been in the top 3.
