Nico Terol took victory in the 125cc race at Catalunya in controversial circumstances as Johan Zarco, who crossed the line first, received a 20 second penalty for an illegal overtaking maneuver on Terol on the final turn.

Terol let Zarco through to take the lead with only two laps to go. Terol then shadowed Zarco and tried to test him and put him under pressure, before taking the lead back for the final lap. Terol tired to break away, but Zarco was able to stay hot on his tail before Zarco made his move on the final turn and made contact with Terol, forcing him off into the dirt.

The penalty bumped Zarco down to 6th place, and put Maverick Vinales in second place and Jonas Folger in third.
