Valentino Rossi took victory in the Mayalsian MotoGP – Rossi was forced to stage a fightback after slipping to 11th position after a poor start. Andrea Dovizioso took second place, and Jorge Lorenzo, who led for the early part of the race, rode a fast but safe ride to take 3rd position and his first MotoGP World Championship
