Andrea Dovizioso claimed his maiden MotoGP pole position in Motegi today – Dovizioso was the only Respol Honda on track due to Dani Pedrosa being ruled out with the broken collarbone that he sustained in the opening day’s practice session.

Valentino Rossi maintained his strong return to form by taking second position, and Casey Stoner made a late push to take third position by pushing Jorge Lorenzo off the front row.

Ben Spies was once again the fastest rookie finishing in 6th place, just behind his team-mate Colin Edwards.
