Jorge Lorenzo posted the fastest time in the first Free Practice session in Spain. Lorenzo and Stoner traded top spot multiple times during the session, but Lorenzo looked to be more comfortable in finding the fastest pace.

Ben Spies had an interesting session – this is the first time that Spies has been to Catalunya and he was at the bottom of the timesheets for most of it until something clicked and he produced a stunning peformance at the very end to take 5th position with a time of 1’43.854.

Aleix Espargaro also had a good session taking 6th position.

Alvaro Bautista seemed to be making strides on the Suzuki and held 6th position until he crashed out. Fortunately Bautista was uninjured and rejoined the practice session to finish in 12th position.
