Valentino Rossi has dictated the pace of the opening day of the Mugello MotoGP by setting a time that was 0.4 secs faster than Jorge Lorenzo. Ben Spies was the fastet rookie taking 6th place, on a good day for Tech-3 in gereral as Colin Edwards claimed 4th fastest time.

Loris Capirossi had one of his trademark strong performances at Mugello by taking 3rd place, while his team-mate Alvaro Bautists continues to struggle with injury and finished in last position and about 5 seconds off the pace of Capirossi.
