Dani Pedrosa started the Italian GP from pole position and got into an early rhythm to lead the race from start to finish without being challenged once.
Jorge Lorenzo tried to stick with him but was soon dropped and left to fight for second position with Andrea Dovizioso.
Casey Stoner had a tough time fighting for 4th position with Marco Melandri and Randy De Puniet, with all riders putting aggressive overtaking moves on each other. Stoner got the better of them right at the end and claimed 4th position ahead of Melandri, followed by De Puniet.
Nicky Hayden has less luck and lost the front of his Ducati and slid out of the race after 18 laps. Colin Edwards also had a rough time, and despite proclaiming how positive he felt after qualifying he quickly suffered arm fatigue and faded quickly to the back of the pack.
Mika Kallio was once again overshadowed by his team-mate (Espargaro finished in 8th position) and must surely be concerned about his current form, as well as about his job prospects for next season.
