Riders reactions from Team Aspar following the Indy MotoGP
3rd Álvaro Bautista:
“It hasn’t been a good weekend for us if we are talking about the world title, because Simoncelli is closer to us and Aoyama is now further ahead. I had a lot of problems in practice, just like at Brno where I didn’t feel at all comfortable on the bike. I didn’t manage to find that decent setting that I needed. Yesterday afternoon I felt more confident, and believed that today I could fight at the front. It was a pity that I made such a slow start, because I got stuck behind Debón and it was hard to pass him. When I got through I tried to regain ground with the front two, but they were already too far away. I tried to push at the limit, but on such a bumpy track it is hard to feel comfortable enough to do that when you know that you could fall easily. It hasn’t been the weekend that we expected, but at least we didn’t lose too many points in the standings. We’ll see if at the next few races we can work better in practice, in order to have a setup ready for Sunday.”
4th Mike Di Meglio:
“I’m very happy, because I started excellently from pole and was able to keep in the front group. I’m a little bit disappointed with the lack of confidence that I felt with the rear end of my Aprilia, as I didn’t have enough grip and knew that at any moment I could have crashed out. I had a big scare for just that reason right after the start. I tried to stick with the leaders so that they could take me along with them, whilst I picked up faith in the rear. When Simoncelli made his push I couldn’t stick with him, it was too risky. Álvaro passed me and I tried to stay on his back wheel, but that was also too much to ask for. The grip problem stuck in my head for the whole race, but fortunately I was able to come home fourth; it’s not a bad result, but I was expecting more.”
16th Balázs Németh:
“I made a good start and from there I caught onto the back of a group of riders that carried me up through the places. During some parts of the race -particularly the beginning- I made some little errors of being over-eager and had to get my head back together and keep calm. I wanted to finish the race at all costs and to continue learning how to ride a 250cc bike at such a tough, technical circuit. Fortunately my comfort level with the bike increased in accordance with the laps, and for a moment I had my sights set on finishing in the points for a second consecutive race. However, those riders ahead of me hit the gas and upped their pace to one that I could not equal. I was right at the cusp of a point, so I’ll be trying hard again at Misano – where I already know the track.”
