Interesting interview with Chris Vermeulen in the Aussie Courier Mail newspaper.
Vermeulen states that he expects to have made a decision on his future by the next MotoGP round on the 4th October at Estoril. Vermeulen has been in discussions with the leading Superbike teams including Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Aprilia, as well as continuing to explore potential MotoGP opportunities.
Chris Vermeulen says:
“I don’t know yet what I’m doing next season but I hope to know before the next race in Portugal (October 4),” he said yesterday while in Brisbane.
“There are some good opportunities in World Superbikes and offers in GP.” I’m not looking at the team that can pay me the most but the one that can give me the best results.”
“I’m a racer and I like riding and winning, so I will go with a bike and a team that I think can win races and a championship, either World Superbikes or MotoGP. I don’t see it (returning to Superbikes) as a step down.
“There is good racing in World Superbikes, more than 30 bikes on the grid and a lot of manufacturers now with Aprilia and BMW joining this year and Kawasaki putting a full effort in next year.”
“Until there are some rule changes the only way to win is on a factory Honda or Yamaha. Even Casey (Stoner) has found that this season”
