| "When I shall come to visit Crete we shall visit together the chapel
of St. Yakinthos", His Holiness told us in November 2001, when we visited
him in Fanari.
We talked about Anogia, the habits in the village, its destruction by the Germans and the famous dirge of its women. We talked about the Gegresena, who in 1945, when the epitaph passed her house, stood on her balkony wearing black clothes, expecting her 5th child, and lamented like a Madonna for Christ: "I don't have attar of roses for you Christ, to sprinkle you with attar of roses, Mylord, my catastropher has not yet come, My Joy, to bring attar of roses, My Love." "I listen to your dirges and weep", the patriarch told us and asked Loudovikos to sing a dirge for a company, who had gathered there for lunch. And so it happened. The next evening at the inauguration of an exhibition of photographs for the 10th anniversary of his patriarchal rule, he said us goodbye and promised again to visit Anogia and the chapel of St. Yakinthos.
